:: Say Anything - In Defence of the GenreSay AnythingIf I had to ‘say anything’ about this two-disc CD (and no, I will not pardon my pun) it would have to be that it’s value for money. There are so many songs on here (27 to be exact) and eclectic musical variations it’s like getting a two-for-one deal on parmas at the RSL. Quality vocals from lead singer and songwriter Max Bemis, ranging from rough, gritty, aggressive to soft and tender coupled with the bands in your face, blatant way of putting themselves out there make it a no holes barred, buffet feast for your ears. Melting from poppy punk hues in “You’re the wanker, if anyone is” to heartfelt and emotional in “Goodbye Young Tutor, You've Now Outgrown Me” to boppy show-tunes heard in “That is Why”, their 2008 Release ‘In Defence of the Genre’ has a little from column A, a little from column B and a sprinkling from columns C, D and E. Bemis’ lyrical penmanship flows effortlessly from theme to theme. Serious issues, most notably his multiple breakdowns from drug use melt into his song making, easily his form of self release. There is no mincing of words, and his eloquent and sometimes in your face style make listening the whole way through an anti-fast-forward phenomenon. One of the best things about this band is that they are not afraid to laugh at them selves - and others. Evolving and expanding their horizons, ‘Save Anything’ are currently in the studio penning their next album. I can’t wait to hear what these talented folks come up with next. | ![]() http://www.myspace.com/sayanything |
