:: Seckou Keita Skq - The Silimbo Passage

Seckou Keita Skq

Seckou Keita SKQ is a unique collaboration of musical genres, sounds and cultures. The band’s founder, Kora maestro Seckou Keita, comes from the Casamance region in Senegal (western Africa), and he has since made the UK his home. He’s been influenced by a combination of European jazz, classical and soul music, and all these genres seem to be effortlessly blended into the band’s second release – Silimbo Passage. The rest of the band hail from Senegal, Italy, Egypt and The Gambia, so they really do bring exceptional talent and artistic individuality from the far reaches of the globe. This quintet has already had massive success with their first album, receiving critical acclaim for their unique sound. The Silimbo Passage, Silimbo meaning ‘sunrise’ or ‘where the dark leaves’, is sure to impress again, with enchanting melodies and music that would encourage crowds to dance. Seckou Keita is renowned for his ability to play the virtuoso kora (a west African stringed instrument). This talent is beautifully combined with the diverse sounds of the percussion, the illustrious sound of the violin and the lovely vocals of Binta Suso - a singer from a long line of musicians. An album to calm your senses.
