:: silverchair - Young ModernsilverchairThe band needed time out to recharge and it allowed lead singer Daniel Johns to work alongside his friend Paul Mac on The Dissociatives. Ben and Chris worked on other projects. Now, Silverchair returns with its fifth album and the result is a tremendous piece of work, where the quality of their artistry is superb. The guys show how well they have developed from the previous “Diorama” album. Fresh inspirations and notable input from Paul Mac and co-producer Nick Launay produces some neat quirky interludes and progressive psychedelic forays that push the band into meeting their ambitions with aplomb. Daniel had pointed out what challenges lay ahead for Silverchair and he and his band mates prove that you don’t need to distance yourself from fans and general music observers to meet visionary expectations. Right from the rapid-fire and catchy opening number “Young Modern Station” and the first single “Straight Lines”, itself an instant hit, we soon learn the power of their reflections and ambitions. You would hardly recognise this Silverchair from their previous work, particularly Daniel’s vocals, as he delves into psychedelic, melodic and sometimes glam moments. I think the fans would be more than happy and pleased with the development. They push into various territories and it’s truly logical. With each listen, I am sure listeners will gain greater insight and love of the songs. There are some tremendous songs, notably tracks 4, 5, and 6. In particular track 5 “Those Thieving Birds Part 1”, for being of a monumental nature. It’s pop song at its best and just part one of a two-track story. Overall, this band has made a strong statement that solidifies their status as one of the leading bands in the western world. It’s a brilliant effort and deserves great kudos. It will take some beating for Australian album of the year. | ![]() http://www.chairpage.com |
