:: Sing Sing - Sing Sing & I

Sing Sing

Having done this album the hard way (much time struggling with funding the production costs), it‘s been a worthwhile exercise as far as I am concerned. This is one of the best albums I've heard all year. 'Sing Sing And I’ is pure pop bliss. Sing Sing is comprised of Emma Anderson and Lisa O‘Neill. It's tremendous to see Emma back making great music because I remember her days as part of Lush, one of Britain's best indie bands of the 1990s. The songwriting and arrangements are quite beautiful and there are several catchy songs. The music has been achieved simply and efficiently. Right from the opener, 'Lover’, you can feel the cool vocal melody and it sets up the whole album with brightness and sweetness. One of the best pop songs you could imagine comes in the form of ‘Mister Kadali’. The title comes from the fact that Kadali has spiritual healing powers. He actually does a voice over to introduce the song. It‘s a great beginning and leads into a glorious pop tune. In days gone by. a song like this would be heard all over the radio. Sadly, unwiser radio heads prevail and too many music lovers miss hearing this brilliant number. It's hard to get a song like this out of your head. 'Going Out Tonight’ shows a slightly darker, indie side and is another favourable track with its distorted vocals. ‘I Do’ has that sweetness and gorgeous vocal melody, generally evident throughout the set. Then there are moments where you'd here a Dandy Warhols-style laidback number. Overall, this is a treat for lovers of British indie pop but it's something that sits well above some of today's major pop releases. Highly recommended and it is hoped we hear much more of Emma and Lisa in the years to come.
