The Sirens Of Venice

It shouldn‘t be too long before more people hear about Melbourne band The Sirens Of Venice. I was only recently introduced to them as they did a small showcase performance - virtually their first together - to several friends and media folk. It was almost as though they had been playing together for years as they played very professionally with lush grooves and fine arrangements. It was just a brief taste to what I was to expect from the ten-song debut album. There is a familiar face to the band - Craig Jackson (ex-Gersey) who I remember well from several years ago as a busy band on the Australian circuit. Together with his wife Camilla, and other musicians (often there are up to eight on stage), there is a measured and meticulous look to this outfit. Camilla is at the forefront of writing duties while Craig takes lead vocals and sings with aplomb. The sing-a-long choruses and enticing beats will attract instantly, with notable tracks being the catchy 'Do You Believe’ and ‘You & Me’. Understandably, there is a little unevenness with the standard, with some really adept tracks and others perhaps over-atmospheric and lacking some bite, but I am sure that this band has the ability to come together and produce some gorgeous sounds. It is a tight, full sound with fine instrumentation (often three guitars together and a notable violin player) and Camilla's back-up vocals adding the sweetness. There is much to anticipate in the future.
