:: The Sleepy Jackson - Personality: One Was A Spider, One Was A BirdThe Sleepy JacksonThe album title is an appropriate description for what The Sleepy Jackson offers on this record. Lead singer and songwriter Luke Steele can reflect on this album in the knowledge that he has produced a set of delightful pop songs with a particular vision matched by few in this country. His lyrics will touch at the heart – very poetic at times – and makes him one of the shining lights on the pop-rock scene. Despite the tumultuous times that Luke has endured, he has an unshakeable faith in himself and of the musical history left behind. He acknowledges other influences of the 60s through to the 80s and, in keeping with his aim for perfection, achieves much through his soaring vocals and thought-provoking songwriting. The overall production is excellent and, with Malcolm Clarke as his only regular in the band, has created a record that is easily amongst the best Australian records of this year. | ![]() |
