:: Small Affairs - Incidents & AccidentsSmall AffairsTake just one listen to Melbourne five-piece Small Affairs’s ‘Incidents & Accidents EP’ and you know that this is a band that has the potential to make it to the big time. This is one of the best short-plays this reviewer has heard in a long time. ‘The Flow’ reveals a brashness and a raw energy that the ‘great’ bands like Silverchair and Powderfinger had present on their early work. This is also a track that has the potential to get stuck in your head because the 60’s sounding melody is so well done it become infectious, but you won’t mind humming it over and over… because hey, if you’re going to have something bouncing around in your head, it may as well be a good song. ‘Shooting From The Hip’ is another great little rock track but it is on ‘Waterfall’ where Small Affairs step into a league of their own. This track has hit written all over it. The guitar work here is out of this world and along with this good riff and terrific melody; this track has the ingredients of a big hit. The EP finishes off with ‘Television Shakedown’; again the band's brashness is on show… and so is their talent. Small Affairs is a band on the rise… in fact they have what it takes to reach the very top. This exceptional EP could become music history. |
