:: Small Mercies - Off The RecordSmall MerciesI’ve said it once, and I’ll say it again, there must be something in the water in Brisbane. Once again we are presented with a great band from the Sunshine State that creates catchy and melodic pop/rock. If there is no room, then room should be made, because even this early recording highlights a polished and expressive sound that can only get better with time. Their experience with producers such as Dave Nicholas who’s worked with such artists as Metallica and Nickelback, definitely shows, and gives their music a defining edge in a competitive market. Add this to the exemplary company they keep, namely performances with the like of Pete Murray, The Cruel Sea and The Superjesus, and you’ve got yourself a band that’s ready to launch their assault on the Australian public. The single ‘Pellet Gun’ is a fitting theme song for their onslaught, just enough to sting you on impact and ask the question, ‘do we have your attention now?’ This is followed by the fist pumping rock of ‘Don’t You Know Who I Am?’, a track that given time is sure to become a rhetorical question. | www.smallmercies.com.au |
