:: Small Sips - The Morning RipplesSmall SipsImagine it’s a sunny Sunday morning. You wake up, have a stretch, make yourself a coffee, slip back into bed and open the paper. And, if you decide to have a little background music going, this album would complete the scene perfectly. Perhaps that’s where the name Small Sips comes from; they are the perfect accompaniment to a cup of tea or coffee. Made up of two former Paradise Motel members and joined by Sodastream’s vocalist Karl Smith, Small Sips creates a laid back, non-offensive, non-obtrusive sound. At first the album seems to play too safe. Although beautifully and sensitively arranged, the sound isn’t particularly new and is almost always constant. But listening a little closer, it is apparent that Small Sips write some poetic, at times morbid, and moving vivid lyrics. For lovers of folk this is a great neo-folk album. If you’re not a huge folk fanatic this album could still have a place in your CD collection. If you appreciate acoustic music or poetry, make room for Small Sips. | ![]() |
