:: Sophie Ellis Bextor - Shoot From The Hip

Sophie Ellis-Bextor

Sophie oozes sex appeal and her new blonde locks returns with several catchy disco-infused tracks. She doesn’t stray too far from the winning formula of her big first album “Read My Lips”. The trend is set by the song “Mixed Up World”, a fantastic high-energy number. She is intent on establishing her credentials as an anti-manufactured pop star that gives certain sophistication to what could be considered standard pop songwriting. Sophie knows her limitations and uses her talent pleasurably. She has the sassy style to win people over. On this album, she works alongside some accomplished people like Bernard Butler, Gregg Alexander and Alex James. Other tracks to note are “I Won’t Change You”, similarities occur with her monster hit “Groovejet”, and “I Am Not Good At Not Getting What I Want”, where she shows a true confidence in her style. Perhaps this song is indicative of how her future may progress. She throws in a very good cover of Olivia Newton-John’s “Physical”. Generally, the album will grow upon dance music listeners in capturing the catchy lyrics and funked-up elegant 80s-styled tunes. Her maturity as a singer-performer continues and she creates a great vibe.
