Sophie follows the nature of the eclectic classical-cum-pop sound with her vocals and violin combining to form an interesting mix of commercial-sounding and dark haunting music across this EP. The Sydney performer has an effervescence that is attractive on the live circuit and her backing musicians do a adequate job in creating the right moods. She had already released the song “Carmen” earlier in the year. Now come arranged vocals in a remix with a frenetic violin. “Don’t Think” gives a solid commercial feel while “Lost” follows a similar pop line. “Fade To Black” offers a darker style and gives a bit more depth to Sophie’s all-round talent. The listener would dearly love more depth and texture throughout Sophie’s set and for Sophie’s own musical identity. It will be interesting to see how she develops her sound before she can cut into wider listener territory.
