Soulwax has nailed it with this one. ‘Any Minute Now’ is a dastardly combination of fuzz driven rock, undulating dynamics, slinky grooves and soundscape refrain; Queens Of the Stone Age on dancefloor drugs. Tasty musical arrangements and gifted conceptions of electronica, the pulse on ‘Any Minute Now’ is such that you can almost see the lights spinning in front of you.
Semi tonal descensions give way to burls of filthy, bluesy guitar lead, while the other end of the Soulwax spectrum is a sub-fusion of crawling riff manipulation stocked up with pop hooks. The former disguised as cleverly inspired slabs of melody. The inspiration continues through onto the cover artwork, which features some trippy pixellation and manipulation with the metric dimensions of little white dots. You must see it for yourself.
