Previously released single “Disco King” kicks off this interesting debut album by Perth band Spencer Tracy. It’s a good track to start with, as it has an infectious rhythm to the pop style. They give a good feeling on “Ocean” – a strong indie-pop tune that is more than lively with plenty of oomph. The rock leanings come to the fore with “Stupid”, “Capsize”, and “Long Gone”, as they pump the guitars into action. The band can provide a gentler edge, like “September” as they tend towards a British pop reminder. Spencer Tracy demonstrates viable potential with the knack for hooks, harmonies and pinning down a well-written song. Their strength lies in understated downbeat melodies and terrific harmonies. I expect to hear much more from them in the future. This is a good beginning.
