This is a fun and expressive release from an Australian act Spoonbill who bring distinctive Australian flavours to this set. The instrumentations and bouncy rhythms engender spark and uniqueness, something like we heard a few years back with The Avalanches, mainly because of the clever sampling. The vibe and atmosphere of the saxophone and double bass add some kick, while you will also hear some light rap and eclectic percussion elements. As the brainchild of Jim Moynihan, a keen percussion exponent from his previous work, a balance of other influences arise to make this one of the more real and nationalistic set of songs you’ll hear. He recorded the album alongside some fine Melbourne musicians and has constructed the music from his past country living. Enjoy the humour and nature-filled content throughout, as Spoonbill provides an Australian culture lesson – think famous Aussie icons of last century.
