:: Stick To Your Guns - Comes From The HeartStick To Your GunsThere’s no denying that the metalcore scene is one of the most saturated genres outside of the scene that has seen a large number of acts attempting to complete at emulating the Swedish melodic death metal sound. But although it’s common knowledge, it hasn’t deterred those still hoping to unearth something fresh and unique, which brings us to Century Media Records’ latest signing Stick To Your Guns. Founded back in 2003, the Orange County band has managed to release one full length effort and garnish a strong following through some high profile tours, before being approach by Century Media Records. Needless to say, the band’s new label has finally released the band’s sophomore effort ‘Comes From The Heart’, and the end results leave you asking why. On the surface, Stick To Your Guns are a solid and competent five piece band. There’s nothing about ‘Comes From The Heart’ that actually sounds amateur or poorly produced, but I’ll be damned if ‘Comes From The Heart’ isn’t just the same metallic hardcore album that seems to sound exactly like the masses that have emerged in the last few years. There are some stronger moments evident on the album. Both ‘Accessory Children’ and ‘Enough Is Enough’ is certainly a great track that fuses together clean emo-rock like chorus within the pure metalcore verses with huge success, while the opening cut ‘We’re What Separates The Heart From The Heartless’ and ‘Driving Force’ are tightly would coils of pure metallic energy. But what really lets down the rest of the album is its predictability and overall ‘Heard it all before’ feel. All up, all I can say is that it must be hard to find originality out there in the metalcore scene these days for Century Media Records to release something as ordinary as Stick To Your Guns’ latest album. | http://www.myspace.com/styg |
