:: Stiffler - Falling from the Black Wings of Romance

Stiffler

Imagine all the punk rudeness of Green Day from ten years ago, Blink 182 from around the same era and the courage and spunk of a fresh rock band and you can kind of picture Stiffler. The boys from Wollongong are winning audiences with their unedited style of rock. Technically, they call themselves ‘rockers’, but there are dashes of punk and maybe just a sliver of punk pop in Stiffler too. Creative intelligence is evident in Stiffler too. Points for all their innovative names of songs, Pilot the Red Dragon, Strangers of the White Lined Nights and Falling from the Black Wings of Romance. This band has a heavy, yet not overpowering, bass. On first listen, one thinks “Are they almost metal?” but further listening reassures they are just confident with a powerful bass. Unlike some other rock bands, with Stiffler, we can still hear the lyrics, and most importantly, the beat. As much as they are a rock band, their lyrics are poetic. They sing about a break up in Falling From The Black Wings of Romance. Light screaming and a rock beat does not hide an ability to sing, and an obvious realism to the lyrics of the song, and coherent, well spaced harmonies. Notorious for their high energy live shows, Stiffler would be well worth checking out live, check out their website for details.
