:: Various Artists - The Story Of Electro (Mixed by Mark Walton)

Various Artists

Possessing a well respected and diverse knowledge of the Australian dance music scene, Mark Walton takes us on a journey through “The Story of Electro”. Superbly produced, Mark’s passion for music shines through in each track on the album - epitomising his understanding and obvious love of his work. The intro is a tantalising titbit; paving the way for things to come. Sliding into a funky little tune infested with live drums we find ourselves immersed in a groove to set the mood. As the album begins to develop so do the tunes; each concurrent track offering a little more bass and a little more electro jam than the previous. As we progress, mesmerising vocals are thrown into the mix and it is easy to get lost in the sound of the funky electro beats. Plenty of drums make it literally impossible for your tapping toe to keep still and a tasty infusion of the trumpet in track 07 (Rockin Radio.. Tom Browne) infuses magically with wicked vocaded vocals. A real journey through time “The Story of Electro” delivers just what the name suggests - from revamps of a Babe Ruth 70’s classic through 80’s hiphouse dance floor delights, the lyrical genius complimenting the sweet electro vibe of track 10 (Freaky Girl.. DJ Sing) and a jamming Back to Basics remix of the timeless hip hop/electro classic Planet Rock - definitely one to get you going. Winding up the story - Walton moves into some new school beats that don’t disappoint. “The Story of Electro” is not a fairy tale but a journey through time spanning two decades of hip hop and electro sounds; celebrating the Djs, producers and labels who in one way or another were leading characters in “The Story Of Electro”.
