One review has labelled this release the bridging of Radiohead and Nick Drake – very ambitious and a very big call. Simply, it is a wide span of intelligently written dense songs not recommended for amping up a party. On their second album the still young and critically applauded Syd Matters has executed some undeniably beautiful guitar based pop tunes with hints of electronica [working with Air and Phoenix’s’ producer] to present some true aural delights – ‘To All of You’ and ‘Icare’ being amongst the most hummable melancholy lullabies recently written. However, when they musically head to the darker side of their brooding atmosphere the album loses a little of its pleasure as the sounds become very restless and lost.
