The American economy may be reeling as it comes towards the end of 2008, but one thing for sure is that, despite being overloaded with ordinary performers, its music industry can still produce an occasional big star. One of them is Taylor Swift, a pop-country singer-songwriter of enormous talent. Her self-titled debut, released when she was aged 16, has been in the US charts for two years. Now, Taylor‘s follow-up album 'Fearless’ has already spent many weeks at No.1 in the USA. She seems unstoppable and she deserves every success. With a look of a princess and everything working slickly on the record, it is worth noting that Taylor has the amount of music credibility most others only dream of - the ability to write her own songs, play guitar, and even a co-produce on this album. This CD, which also has the enhanced content of two music videos for ‘Love Story’ and ‘Change’, is not your average country sound. It‘s more of a contemporary pop-country style. The songs are mostly meaningful and refreshing. The melody is catchy, and the lyrics, though cliched at times, are powerfully subtle. 'Fearless’ has the same mixture of poignancy and sweetness that was found on her last album, but all those involved here have upped the ante. Taylor knows how to write a big hook. The big choruses and the sing-a-long simplicity in her songs sink right into the listener. ‘Fearless’ will win people over with its charismatic star, powerful lyrics, and glossy production. It left me very interested to hear what Taylor Swift will offer next.
