:: Terror - Forever Crossing The Line: Five Years In The Making

Terror

Prior to signing up with Century Media Records, who released their excellent ‘The Damned, The Shamed’ release earlier in the year, Los Angeles based hardcore act Terror spent their formative years on the Trustkill Records label. In celebration of their continuing success, Trustkill Records have put together a compilation under the banner of ‘Forever Crossing The Line: Five Years In The Making’, which draws together some of Terror’s best material, along with a few rarities for the diehard fans. As you would expect, the bulk of this best-of effort is centred on the band’s first three full-length releases. Three tracks are lifted from the band’s debut release ‘Lowest Of The Low’ from 2003 (‘Push It Away’, ‘Life & Death’ and ‘Lowest Of The Low’), while five tracks represent the band’s sophomore effort ‘One With The Underdogs’ from 2004 (‘One With The Underdogs’, ‘Keep Your Mouth Shut’, ‘Overcome’, ‘Out Of My Face’ and ‘Spit My Rage’). Completing the previously released material is another five songs from the band’s final album for Trustkill Records, 2006’s ‘Always The Hard Way’ (‘Strike You Down’, ‘Always The Hard Way’, ‘All For Revenge’, ‘Lost’ and ‘Last of The Diehards’). In terms of unreleased bonus tracks, both ‘Back At You’ and ‘Dead End’ are extra songs from the ‘Always The Hard Way’ sessions, and are pretty much solid efforts that follow along the same style and direction of the album.
However, the two live that tidy up this compilation tracks (‘Better Off Without You’ and ‘Lowest Of The Low’, both of which have been lifted from the band’s 2006 DVD ‘The Living Proof’) could have easily been replaced with a couple of genuine rarities, as the sound quality leaves a lot to be desired. Despite the lack of real surprises in terms of unreleased gems on ‘Forever Crossing The Line: Five Years In The Making’, the packaging and the liner notes from Hatebreed’s Frank 3 Gun, Lifetime’s Dan Yemin, Sick Of It All’s Craig Setari, Madball’s Freddy Cricien, Chimaira’s Matt DeVries, Jedi Mind Tricks’ Vinnie Paz and Terror’s vocalist Scott Vogel are pretty impressive and noteworthy. Overall, ‘Forever Crossing The Line: Five Years In The Making’ is a solid overview of one of the more genuine and consistent hardcore acts on the scene today.
