:: The Audition - Great DangerThe AuditionSo many underground bands come out America every year that it‘s hard to keep up, The Audition are the latest. Their new album Great Danger isn't going to knock your socks off, unless auto-tuned pop rock happens to be your idea of a party. If it is, then you are going to love 'Great Danger’. The Audition sound like 30H!3 except without the quirk that helped that duo rise to super stardom. Take “The Art of Living” - a sweet track sung with Backstreet Boys vocals behind a pretty uninspiring soft rock guitar-meets-drum melody. “Mr.Crumby” is more of the same generic pop-disguised-as-rock that we've heard time and time again from Fall Out Boy, My Chemical Romance, All Time Low and the like. In fact, if put The Audition in a line-up with all the young pop rock bands that are big at the moment and got them to sing you wouldn't be able to tell them apart. But don't get me wrong, that doesn't mean they utterly suck. “Honest Mistake” is a great song, it's whined vocals are emotion-packed and it's pumping, energetic beat addictive. “Final Adventure” is even mildly progressive, with a swaggering guitar riff that's got some real punch. Great Danger is easy to listen to, packed with strong tracks that are mainstream, which is perfectly fine, just not very exciting. On this album The Audition have offered 11 tracks that are well put together and nice enough to attract the attention of the average pop rock listener, they probably won't become so infatuated that they'll want to tattoo the band's name on their body, but they won't want to change the channel either. | ![]() |
