It's always good to become aware of the terrific musical talent being realised around Australia. The Audreys is one of the flock of new artists to my ears in recent times. With folk/roots influences, the four-piece band play with undaunted fervour and melodic quaintness. Led by the breathy vocals of Taasha Coates and accompanied by able musicians on various acoustic-driven instruments, this is a well-crafted, pleasurable set of songs. This debut has been produced by respected Melbourne producer Shane O'Mara. Generally, the music is easy listening, through a myriad of emotions amid the strong writing quality. Very tasteful and unique, The Audreys would be well worth seeing on the live stage, particularly in intimate surroundings. Listen for one special tune - the final track being a cover of the INXS classic “Don't Change”, done in a more contemplative fashion. This is a very good Australian release.
