:: The Audreys - Sometimes The StarsThe AudreysAward-winning Australian band The Audreys have released their third album ‘Sometimes The Stars’ and continue on their fine achievements to date with the same restrained vocals and beautiful lyricism from lead singer Taasha Coates, together with acute instrumentation. The sound is a little bigger and fuller in texture with cello and string arrangements. The immediate standout track is ‘Falling Down’, of a heartbreaking theme that showcases the wonderful sultry vocals of Taasha. She is quickly becoming one of Australia‘s most notable singers and, when you consider that the band reshuffled its plans due to line-up departures after the second album, it's a mighty fine effort by her and Tristen Goodall (as core members) to settled back into stride and write a confident-sounding record. Contributors to the album include jazz pianist Paul Grabowsky, the boys from Tripod and Michael Barker of John Butler Trio fame. The duo once again worked under the deft hand of producer, engineer and friend Shane O’Mara. Other worthy tracks include 'Comfort Me’ - also of an aching sombre theme - and ‘Troubles Somehow’ which finds the band in better spirit as they deliver an uncharacteristic sing-along track with a fast tempo and big band sound. Taasha and Tristen have produced some charming melodies - country/acoustic/strings still - but with an added edgy element. They remain a charming alternative to the latest pop and R&B sounds taking the spotlight. New music fans should take a strong interest as this album, despite not containing standout singles (it's not meant too, I suspect) will grow on you. | ![]() http://www.theaudreys.com.au |
