:: The Basics - Stand Out/Fit InThe BasicsSome capable guitar pop sounds are evident in The Basics' debut album. The band models itself on 60s influences with their look and style, and they demonstrate effective harmonies although some songs lack particular strength that measure against these influences. One thing to note about the album packaging is that there are Australian Rules football cards inside, featuring statistics and achievements of each band member. You'll note that one of the members Wally De Backer has his own project, Gotye, and he has been making waves too. The styles range in flavour from jazzanova, pop and sometimes a big rock sound and generally they display catchy pop tunes. At least The Basics are having a shot at something different. They will make people sing and dance, and that's not a bad thing at all. | ![]() |
