:: The Bees - Octopus

The Bees

Here‘s an album that, going by their track record, promised so much yet inexplicably delivered very little. British lads The Bees, known for their quirky tunes and '60s sound have taken all before them but three albums in, and 'Octopus’ reeks of mediocrity and a serious case of the “same-sames” about it. Their previous two releases have made plenty sit up and take notice. Hell, they even scored a few blue-ribbon advertising deals with their songs - remember the Martians Mars Bar ad or their earlier Levis hit? Unfortunately, where this album falls down is that many of the songs sound identical. There‘s not much to differentiate between them. A few songs shine, such as opener 'Who Cares What The Question Is?’ and the delightful and fun ‘The Ocularist’ but generally it's hard to tell one from the other. They're too good to let mediocrity get in the way, so let's just write this one off as a minor hiccup.
