:: The Dingoes - TracksThe DingoesHow history reinvents? Nearly thirty-seven years ago, The Dingoes forged a place in Australian music folklore with their classic hit ‘Way Out West’ - taken from their album ‘The Dingoes’ on the Mushroom label, owned by a young entrepreneur called Michael Gudinski. In 2010 The Dingoes return unexpectedly with a new album ‘Tracks’, on a record label called Liberation Music, owned by that same Michael Gudinski. Quite remarkable! When I talk about an unexpected return, one could say that the fire in the belly returned in 2009 when the band were inducted into the ARIA Hall Of Fame. It set up this new project and it shows The Dingoes can still produce some capable country-rock sounds. These guys epitomised the Australian bush, singing about life on the land, and now, as elder statesmen, their seasoned voices provide some gritty and emotional music. Broderick Smith had enjoyed a solid solo career following the band break-up all those years ago, and his voice has stayed true and strong, presenting the vivid songwriting landscapes fans had yearned to remember. The country-roots scene has enjoyed some good moments in recent years and The Dingoes can still be part of this embrace, bringing such music to a full circle from their former glory days. The album may meander a little towards the conclusion but the first half of the album shows the spirit of mature, open-minded (on an open road, most likely) thoughts about the place we live in today. The Dingoes give us another voice and outlook on this vast country and show that they aren't out of place with this comeback album. | ![]() |
