:: The Fashion - The FashionThe FashionWhile Denmark may not exactly be known as a music mecca they may have brought us one of the musical finds of the year in the form of four-piece outfit The Fashion. On their self-titled album The Fashion show that even though they can’t settle on one genre to play, it doesn’t matter when all your music sounds this damn fine! Tracks like ‘Dead Boys’ and ‘APT’ are that fresh sounding Indie rock sound made popular by groups such as Dogs Die In Hot Cars and Modest Mouse; while ‘Solo Impala’ shows just how willing The Fashion are to mess with their sound. It sounds strange but it has the vocal stylings of a boy band attempting a rock track while an almost hip-hop sounding beat plays throughout the track. Even stranger is the fact that it works brilliantly. Vocals are actually one of the most important things on this album. If vocalists Anders Find Axelsen and Jakob Printzlau didn’t have great voices than this album would fail miserably. It is these voices that make the catchy pop-rock songs such as ‘Untitled’, ‘Letters From The Ambulance, ‘Like Knives’ and ‘Mathematics’ such memorable and catchy tracks. All of these songs are screaming out to be made singles and to be played on radio. You will be humming them for days after hearing them. The Fashion really find their niche on ‘The Funeral Dept.’; it’s hear where you realise that what they do best is the sub-genre of alternative pop. You could be forgiven for thinking these guys have a team of people behind them that help them produce such great sounding music. But the music and lyrics is all written by the band, which says something about the kind of future they will have. If raw talent still gets a band anywhere today than The Fashion will be on top sooner rather than later. | ![]() |
