:: The Flaming Lips - At War with the Mystics

The Flaming Lips

That’s right. They are the guys that had that 90s hit “She Don’t Use Jelly.” And what exactly was that song about? Who knows. But what might seem like a one hit wonder band is actually a 20 year long project that is forever morphing into something new while retaining its old soul. The Flaming Lips is back with their eleventh album At War with the Mystics. This album’s sound has a distinct 70s feel to it. It’s interesting to hear this amongst an enormous cluster of indie Bowie wannabe bands that do nothing but “take it back to the 80s”. Perhaps it’s because these guys are a bit older and actually lived through the 70s. There are echoes of The Beatles and if you close your eyes and listen for long enough, you can actually feel the warmth of the bonfire and the brotherly love at Woodstock.
