:: The Follow - An Empty Orchestra

The Follow

This album was produced and engineered by Lee Ranaldo (Sonic Youth) and it’s a measure of the high regard held for this exciting new band that has emerged in 2004. I had already been mightily impressed with the single “Smashed Heart”, with the various all-embracing influences. It is a positive, raucous song that had me thinking that here was something in Australia with potential to be felt on a global scale. The album brings many 60s-90s vibes to life in an art rock way; think of The Cure, Joy Division, and hints of Smashing Pumpkins. Frontman Azaria shows worthy songwriting talent in sweeping through various emotions and situations. Other notable tracks are opener “Goddess Of Time” and “The World Is A Mirror”. However, there is something within each track to check out and grasp, and it will be interesting to see their next move.
