:: The Ghost Inside - The Fury And The Fallen Ones

The Ghost Inside

The joint partnership between Los Angeles based metal/hardcore label Mediaskare Records and Century Media Records has gotten off to a flying start, with their first release being the debut full-length effort from The Ghost Inside. Founded in Los Angeles, The Ghost Inside may not have the history that a lot of other big name metallic hardcore acts on the scene have, but they certainly know what they’re after, with ‘The Fury And The Fallen Ones’ injecting a little more life and passion into the dying genre than a lot of other releases in recent times. The opening track ‘Provoke’ is fairly indicative of what the bulk of the album has to offer up. The combination of edgy and manic guitar riffing, big thick bass sounds and relentless drums all add up to a lively metal based soundtrack for the band, while Vigil’s hardcore like vocals are full of aggression and menace. But what really works in the group’s favour is the way the band are able to keep their song writing catchy and memorable, without relying too much on metalcore’s standard clichés. The first single/promotional video clip ‘Faith Or Forgiveness’ is definitely one of the big stand out tracks on the album, while ‘Disintegrator’, the slower paced ‘Siren Song’, ‘Inherent Youth’, the subdued guitar instrumental ‘Smoke And Signal Fires’ and the thundering closer ‘Blue And Gold’ are the remaining picks on offer here. The Ghost Inside may not be reinventing the metalcore scene with their take on the genre, but they have certainly managed to make something tired and predictable once again sound full of life and re-energised with ‘The Fury And The Fallen Ones’.
