North Queensland lads, The Medics, are beginning to garner the kind of reputation and praise normally associated for more recognised, established bands. Their brand of emotive music is easy to be spellbound by and on this, their second EP, ‘This Boat We Call Love’ they indicate the hype is indeed warranted. They mix their slower, more tender moments with a faster, darker edge and the two styles compliment each other perfectly. ‘Joseph’, one of the key songs has lovely glockenspiel, triangle moments before giving way to a harder, more rock guitar based track. It’s a nice touch and should win over many. There’s elements of Gersey and Epicure about them but they also bring along their very own unique sound and identity, and after listening to this five track EP, they’re on the right path.
