:: The Saturdays - On Your Radar

The Saturdays

I‘ve been impressed with the young ladies that comprise The Saturdays, particularly their musical ability. The new album On Your Radar takes most of the pop elements of their previous work and moulds it with a club makeover. Upon a couple of listens, it works well. Some of the tracks are great floor-fillers, with the likes of 'All Fired Up’, ‘Faster’ and ‘For Myself’ succeeding as good club tracks. On the other hand, they can provide a beautiful song like ‘Wish I Didn't Know’, left purely to the piano, acoustic guitar and drums. Another high point is “My Heart Takes Over”, a fist-pumping torch song replete with dramatic pre-chorus pauses and strings set firmly to uplift. Could this eventually be their direction? There is still some improvement and scope in their sound but this is a definite step forward. It will serve the girls well in their homeland, while challenging them further for the future. Overall, I like what The Saturdays are doing, maturing step by step, touting themselves as sexier (with an R&B/dance attraction), and displaying a bigger sound, while allowing scope to progress.
