:: The Shake Up - If You Have No Shame

The Shake Up

After just one listen to Sydney trio The Shake Up’s debut album ‘If You Have No Shame’ you are certainly left seeing exactly why they were picked to open for The Fratellis. No band has managed to capture such a ‘catchy’ sound since The Fratellis themselves first exploded onto the scene. It is certainly the catchiness of these tracks that makes you want to listen to this album over and over. Opening track ‘She Read The Riot Act’ is so catchy you could easily see it becoming a modern anthem while ‘Home Ec.’ will be lapped up by fans of Grinspoon and Kisschasy in an instant. If great song-writing and a catchy melody really are the secret to getting a song on the radio these days then ‘Every Friday Night’ will be out on their on the FM airwaves very, very soon, while those who love their rock dirty will be pretty impressed with ‘Everybody Loves It’. ‘LovePainJoyShame’ just has to be released as a single sometime – it contains an amazing melody that most bands would be envious of. ‘Crawling All Around’ sees The Shake Up pull out a surprising amount of punk aggression while ‘Makes Me Sick’ is a bland song made enjoyable by yet another great melody. The catchiness returns on ‘Meet In The Middle’ – a track driven by some thumping drums, while the vocal stylings of Miles Selwyn on ‘Unmade Plan’ will have you reaching for the ‘repeat’ button. ‘Kiss The Pavement’ sees The Shake Up rewind to a pure 1990’s rock sound while ‘A Little Bit Quiet’ and ‘Pretty City’ will have you singing along whether you mean to or not. This is quite a stunning debut album. Every track is catchy and a joy to listen to due to the fact that The Shake Up can produce melodies that are far beyond their years. This is a band that will quickly draw a fan base and with an album full of tracks that could be radio hits, soon everyone will have heard about these guys.
