:: The Simian Line - Look So LoudThe Simian LineBand names are so interesting these days, and it seems that in order to be hugely successful the stranger the better. If this is really the case then ‘The Simian Line’ should have no trouble securing their place in the spotlight. After all how many bands liken themselves to apes? You can work that one out later! Thankfully the band has more than an interesting name to recommend them, and one listen of their new EP ‘Look So Loud’ is proof of this. Hailing from beautiful Western Australia, ‘The Simian Line’ are talented, intriguing and extremely hard to label. They are rock, but they are also alternative, and perhaps just a touch of everything in between. Something tells me this level of diversity is not a mistake, and making it hard for others to label them is all just part of the plan. The sounds on ‘Look So Loud’ range from the dark and ethereal ‘Familiar Sun’, to the giddy rock styling of ‘Crawl’. Whatever the sound, they have certainly made themselves hard to ignore. You don’t get to support the likes of Hard-Fi, Sunk Lotto and The Butterfly Effect by sitting in a corner and hoping you’ll get noticed. So, let’s have one last look at the list: interesting name; check, diverse and intriguing sound; check, ability to attract interest from lovers of good music; check and double check. If the band truly wants to liken themselves to monkeys, then they are going to have to accept the fact they have evolved. |
