:: The Strokes - First Impressions Of EarthThe StrokesAfter blasting onto the scene with their brilliant debut ‘Is This It’ The Strokes had the world at their feet. But then they hit us with their woeful follow up album that completely bombed. Thankfully, ‘First Impressions Of Earth’, while not as immediate and exciting as the debut, is a damn sight better than the tripe they threw out in between. First single ‘Juicebox’ recalls the eagerness, passion and vivaciousness that blew us all away in the first place. While perhaps not as important as they once were, The Strokes are still a worthwhile band to have around. For one, they divert attention away from sham-pop and the Idle franchise and refocus attention on the music, not the product. Clocking in at over 50 minutes (almost equal in length to the total of their first two albums), shows The Strokes are serious about their music, trying to carve out somewhat of a career in this fickle industry that‘s always looking for the next thing! And it seems their record label is also keen to invest time and money into them, with an impressive, comprehensive CD booklet accompanying the album. With Casablancas’ blase singing style, the uber cool laid back rock, and the indie rock vibe of their tunes, The Strokes have come some way to erasing the shocking slop they called a second album. |
