The Vines

After storming onto the scene with an electrifying debut, The Vines lost their way (to many observers), delivered up a mediocre second album, and just generally lost the plot. After infamous onstage fights and walk-offs, brushes with the law, banished from Triple M, and an out of control frontman, all seemed lost. While a lot has changed since then - lead singer Craig Nicholls was diagnosed with a rare psychological disorder and their bass player Patrick Matthews quit the band. The Vines has hit back hard with its third album, and while not as immediate as the brilliant debut, it’s still very very good. It‘s quite obviously their most mature album to date and indicates they're not done with yet. And thank God for that I say, as they still know how to punch out a tune and grab your interest from the get go! They open up with 'Anysound’, and continue the full throttle attack with ‘Nothin's Comin’, ‘Candy Daze’ and ‘F@k Yeh’ (a song which as good as ‘Highly Evolved’), and don‘t stop until they reach the end ('Spaceship’) some 31 minutes later. Now a three piece, don't expect these vines to wither anytime soon.
