:: The Watt Riot - Paint The City RedThe Watt RiotIt’s that garage sound that’s really taking the world by storm at the moment. Jet made it ‘over there’ and now it is time for something like The Watt Riot to do much the same with their latest endeavour ‘Paint The City Red’ under the Soviet Records/Cvibes label. With the guidance of Anthony The (Wolfmother, Youth Group & The Vines) at Velvet Sound and Al Wright (Motley Crue, Ratt & INXS) at 313 Studios, the Riot has been incited and it’s not going to stop in Wollongong. This quartet plans on global anarchy! The band have embraced a vein much similar to that of their influences: a cavalier perspective that becomes synonymous with a style and technical make-up of song that literally, anyone can play. I think my cousin with four fingers could play most of this stuff. But that is the beauty of it really, it’s honest, in your face and there are no compromises, just like how the original guys did it (I guess the primary contrast is that groups like the Sex Pistols and the Clash had something legitimate to stomp their feet over). If you don’t like it, then take a hike! Because someone else does! Abused rhythm riffs and some peculiar melodies are the star attractions and what will be the integral draw for die-hard punk fans. Add in some wailing vocals and some trendy looking people and you have a full card for full blown put stardom. Don’t tell me I didn’t warn you, these guys and gal have some genuine potential. Radio Triple J’s Unearthed have once again uprooted a talent worthy of commercial success and many kudos must go Triple J’s way. They continue to show Australia and the rest of the world how much musical flair belongs to this beautiful country. The Watt Riot have rewarded Triple J’s trust with a record already receiving widespread acclaim from notables like Josh Homme (Queens of the Stone Age): ‘This is like hard as Boniwell Music Machine…. It’s smoking’. In Josh we trust. | http://www.myspace.com/thewattriot |
