The White Room

Geelong band The White Room has been poised to release its first full length album debut for some time, so they must be especially pleased in reaching this stage of their career. We’d already had an inkling to the album through their very good singles ‘Enemies Closer’ and ‘Vicious Girl’. The latter being issued as a digital release, complete with exclusive tracks. The debut album was produced by the accomplished Phil McKellar, who has worked with some of the big bands in Australia over the past ten years or so. He has placed his mark on the maturing band’s sound. He seems to have put the production in perspective with how the band sounds live and kept things pretty simple and clear. The music itself is filled with heartfelt lyrics and raw power. The struggles of singer Marc Collis (he is confined to a wheelchair through a brittle bone disease) come to the fore in such pure singing and songwriting. He has the ability to convey his messages succinctly and delivers the life experiences with regard to his relationship with the listeners. Marc’s sister Steph, the band’s drummer, joins him in defining the band’s vocal harmonies that have symbolised their local popularity. She is a good singer in her own right. The whole band gels well and this is a good indication of how their recent development has ensured they’ve stepped up a notch or two. Be sure to catch them live and to have a listen to this album.
