:: The Young Knives - Voices of Animal and Men

The Young Knives

From the outset The Young Knives make it clear they are cutting edge, no pun intended. They are fresh, exciting and more current than they probably mean to be. They form part of a wave of new artists that are creating accessible alternative music. Like Franz Ferdinand, The Streets and The Killers, The Young Knives make slightly quirky rock / pop that will appeal to many. Some good examples of this are the tracks ‘Weekends and Bleak Days (Hot Summer)’, which could ironically be a hot summer hit, and ‘Another Hollow Line’, a laid back tune set just right for kicking back. The band also manages to cater for those who like their music a little heavier. Track 12, ‘Coastguard’, acts as an opportunity for them to display their rock skills in fervent expression, and despite it’s gloomy title ‘Loughborough Suicide’ will have you bopping around with a little smile on your face. Overall, it has to be said The Young Knives have managed to create a very endearing album. ‘Voices of Animal and Men’ is one that will grow on you, and if given the chance will probably take you over completely.
