Thundamentals

Other hip hop acts can sound forced but not Thundamentals. They are tight act, sound natural and clearly have rhythm, in a way Australia has not seen since the invention of Bliss N Eso years ago. Now that the obvious Bliss N Eso comparison is out of the way we can focus on Thundamentals, a refreshing four piece hip hop band who hail from the Blue Mountains, NSW. The boys of Thundamentals: Tuka, Jeswon, Tommy Fiasco and DJ Morgs, are all accomplished individuals who have merged talents to form this new offering. Thundamentals are so refreshing because they exhibit the characteristics of rap in its essence and that is their drawcard. They are about rap, hip hop and meaningful though thankfully not obscene lyrics. They are about their music, but ironically they are about more than the music and above this, they about their hip hop. Their self titled EP is terribly diverse. Their first single, Storm Warning, features the sweet vocals of Charlotte Craib and is a funky piece that is easily enjoyed. Carpe Diem features strong lyrics. Hold Up is fabulous as well. My personal favourite is their last one, a bonus track called Disconnect featuring Joe New, where slow tempos and controlled rap relaxes its listener. The boys have just signed to Obese Records and big things are on the way for them. Expect a debut album on the way soon.
