:: Tiga - Sexor

Tiga

Canadian Tiga Sontag’s first full album “Sexor” is a collection of what could be described as a lifetime of music influences and experiences. “Sexor” finds Tiga moving away from the turntables and grabbing hold of a microphone to record some of his own original songs and playing around with some tunes that once belonged to other bands. Tiga, whose father was a ground-breaking DJ in India in the 80s, has outlasted many DJs and has lived through his days as a DJ on the rave scene. The album has been five years in the making, so the fun and funky results are well deserved. The album isn’t something I would normally listen to, but I was surprised to find myself going back for more. It’s got some catchy lyrics and tunes which I found myself signing along to and wondering where I’d heard it before. If you’re not into dance, you might find listening to “Sexor” somewhat comfortable. Tiga has managed to produce dance music with a more mainstream edge - a kind of settling for those people who get a bit overwhelmed by more underground tunes. Such comfort comes from more familiar tunes and voices taking some inspiration from Talking Heads and Nine Inch Nails and a guest appearance from Jake Shears from the Scissor Sisters. As a beginners' dance album I recommend “Sexor”. After all, the best way to learn is from one of the best.
