:: Tim Finn - North, South, East, West AnthologyTim FinnAn anthology by legend Tim Finn is long overdue but here at last. Like an incredibly familiar and comforting walk through the best local music of the last 20-years, North, South, East, West is a two-disc smorgasbord of timeless melodies and unforgettable hits. North, South, East, West is sheer brilliance on Tim’s part and it’s proving quite difficult to pass any kind of judgement on the album. It’s not, like most anthologies, packed with rubbish songs, while conveniently leaving out all the masterpieces you’re dying to hear. Finn has included ‘Weather With You’, ‘Six Months In A Leaky Boat’, ‘I Hope I Never’ and all the other tracks that made him a star. It’s also not made up of one band’s efforts but has tracks from all the bands Finn has been in as well as his best solo exploits, which technically means you’re getting four anthologies for the price of one. And there’s even a re-recording of Split Enz’s ‘Stuff and Nonsense’ with Missy Higgins and Crowded House’s ‘It’s Only Natural’ with Bic Runga. Both managing not to kill the original and yet still infuse it with a unique and fresh sound, these re-recordings are an added bonus to what is already an album packed to the brim with musical treats. Simply put, North, South, East, West is the best of Tim Finn, whether you loved him in Split Enz, Crowded House, The Finn Brothers or by himself - sheer musical bliss. | ![]() |
