:: The Ting Tings - We Started NothingThe Ting TingsWhen The Ting Ting‘s emerged with a terrific single titled “Great DJ”, it seemed deeply disposable with a basic guitar hook and bright pop-filled chorus. Yet, upon hearing their other songs on this album, it was evident that a new significant music talent was created. The band, comprising singer-guitarist Katie White and keyboardist-drummer Jules de Martino, have this dynamic that charges up the pop-rock instincts and thereby compile a mostly addictive set of tracks to enjoy. For the work that Jules does “behind the scenes”, it is Katie who steals the show with her inspired and versatile voice. She displays a charm and charisma that is refreshing to see, a deceptive wit, and plenty of aggression. The songs may not all appeal, as they can occasionally grate and be over-cynical, but these two artists have the knack of being frenetic and warm, crashing and breathing, yet look irresistible and edgy. Apart from 'Great DJ’ listen out for ‘Fruit Machine’, ‘That's Not My Name’ and ‘We Walk’. In taking the various punk-to-dance flavours and synthesising them into their collection, the Ting Tings may have looked for instant hits on each song, but, although there is some inconsistency, there is enough evidence to suggest that this Manchester outfit can turn enough heads to shake up the music scene. | ![]() http://www.thetingtings.com |
