Melbourne based singer/songwriter Tobias Cummings is no stranger to the music scene. Nominated for the Australian Music Prize (AMP) among other things, he is a very proficient, self assured musician and if the second single, ‘Goldmine’ from his as yet, unnamed and unreleased second album is anything to go by, he’s about to breakthrough. Full of moody synthesizers, stark guitars, bare drums, and sharing a dark, sombre tone, ‘Goldmine’ is the kind of haunting single that highlights a brilliant songwriter in control of his direction. It’s the kind of song that draws the listener in with its various instruments and sounds and is a track likeable on so many levels. With the album due mid year, it’s going to be an anxious wait, an exciting wait.
