:: Tori Sparks - Under This Yellow Sun

Tori Sparks

Tori Sparks made a big impression with her previous album “Rivers And Roads” about three years ago. She came across as a dynamic and charismatic singer, able to lift and lessen the tempo to suit whatever mood. I know from keeping up with her activities that she is a relentless live performer. With that comes her talent as a vocalist and as a strong and capable guitarist. She puts her heart and soul into her music as if there is no tomorrow. “Under This Yellow Sun” is the first release under the auspices of Tori’s own record label (Glass Mountain Records) and publishing company (Hand Over Foot Publishing). There is a blues and roots feel with some tender, touching moments aside from the tougher tracks. In this album we even get to hear a trumpet and some pedal steel guitar in this set, evoking edgy and atmospheric images. It's hard to categorise Tori but that is probably how she wants it anyway. You can take her away in a basket and just pick whatever piece and she'll pop up and be able to execute it well. I am still very fond of the last album and I don't know if this is as good - she certainly hasn't gone backwards. It's just that the previous album contained songs that made a different impact. There is no denying Tori's skill and ability in staying true to herself. She writes very lucidly and looks beautiful, and has the characteristics to be very successful.
