:: Various Artists - Triple J's Hottest 100 Volume 13Various ArtistsTriple J has done it again, and this CD offers the hottest songs of 2005 compiled in a double disc with 41 songs. It is guaranteed to please everyone, with upbeat poppy hits like Bernard Fanning’s Wish You Well, Kisschasy’s Do Do’s and Whoa-oh’s, while some generic pop hits like “Gold Digger” “Feel Good Inc” and “Catch My Disease” are catchy. There’s a bit of light electro thrown in, like Chemical Brothers' “Believe”, and some cool rock like Wolfmother, Foo Fighters, Franz Ferdinand, and The Dandy Warhols. Other less bopper friendly acts that grace this compilation are the BabyShambles “F**k Forever,” and System of a Down. Other cool artists featured on this CD are The Beautiful Girls, Butterfingers, The Living End, The Bravery and Bloodhound Gang. There are a couple of live renditions featured at the end of each disc, with The Herd’s “I Was Only 19” offering a clear and faintly emotive rendition of the song about Anzac day and mateship. The other, Wolfmother’s “Mind’s Eye” is excellent, a live recording of their first hit that grabbed our attention, which offers the crackly, wonderful quality that live performances should have. Granted, these songs are not cutting edge any more but they represent Triple J’s version of 2005, and, like all Triple J 100 CDs, the no fail catch seems to work - the cd appeals to people because songs were voted by Triple J listeners for anyone who enjoys rock/some pop/indie/some light electro music. | ![]() |
