:: Various Artists - Triple J - Like a Version 3 (with bonus DVD)Various ArtistsThe idea of famous bands doing cover versions of famous songs is not all that original, however Triple J have managed to work this idea in such a way that the end result is undeniably original and fresh. Like a Version has become quite the success since the first compilation was released in 2005. This success has been due in large part to the healthy mixture of quality talent and the sense of fun that both L.A.V1 & 2 exhibited. Like a Version 3 will undoubtedly follow in its predecessors footsteps, burrowing its way into our hearts and making itself at home. As with the previous two compilations, there are definite standouts on L.A.V 3. Anyone who has heard Vol.1 will certainly remember tracks such as Damien Rice’s version of ‘When Doves Cry’, and Little Birdy’s wonderful ‘These Boots Were Made for Walking’. Vol 3 also offers up some superb little gems that will have you hitting replay at least a couple of times. There’s the somewhat odd, yet equally engaging version of ‘The House at Pooh Corner’ by Josh Pyke, and the un-bootyfied now folk tinged ‘Crazy in Love’ by The Magic Numbers. You also have two covers of one hit wonders courtesy of the Macromantics and Angus & Julia Stone. The Macromantics put their own spin on the classic Kris Kross tune ‘Jump’, and the Stone siblings giving a whole new mellow outlook to the chart topper ‘tubthumping’. For the first time in the series, Vol 3 also comes with a bonus DVD, so you can now see and hear the magic happening before you. This is a great addition, and really adds and extra element of enjoyment to the whole experience. All in all it’s another triumph for Triple J, and I am eagerly looking forward to many more instalments. | ![]() |
