:: Troy Cassar-Daley - I Love This Place

Troy Cassar-Daley

Like John Farnham, Troy Cassar-Daley is an institution on the Australian music scene. A true country music legend, Cassar-Daley has six studio albums under his belt and a new record called I Love This Place. Another helping of what this singer/songwriter does best, I Love This Place is all about evocative story-telling woven into some good old toe-tapping country beats, except this time Cassar-Daley‘s experimenting with a drum machine to add some rock, pop, blues and folk tunes. I Love This Place kicks off with “Sing About This Country.” A banjo infused beat, “Sing About This Country” is a tune that would make any Australian proud as Cassar-Daley incorporates all the most beautiful elements of this land (Kakadu, Uluru, Cottesloe beach etc.) into a slow, honest and majestic country melody. “Chasin’ Rodeos” keeps up the Austaliana theme. A good and simple acoustic guitar and violin beat complements Cassar-Daley's raw vocals in what is a sweet little ditty about the Aussie bush and the young men who travel the country chasing rodeos. Co-producing the album, Cassar-Daley even gets some help from Don Walker of Cold Chisel for the hit “Down That Road Before”. A melancholic song about travelling, “Down That Road” has some lovely piano melodies and a great acoustic guitar bassline. “Ain't Gonna Change For You” is another fantastic and upbeat track about how men/women never change with the very Dolly Parton-esque McClymonts adding some much needed female perspective. I Love This Place is all about the proud Australian way of life and the people who give it colour. Troy Cassar-Daley never fails to sweep you up in his stories about the old days on the farm, adding his own colour to his songs by drawing from his personal family history. A great listen, I Love This Place is nostalgic and evocative and perfect for a road trip across this great Southern Land.
