:: Upshot - Make It HappenUpshotUpshot, we're talking hip-hop and no doubt about it. They are a seven—piece live band from Sydney that consists of the original four members plus the recent addition of two MC's and a bass player. This album is a final product of the work they have been performing in live gigs over the past two years. They use saxophone, keyboards, drums and turntable, used scratched up voice samples and manipulate every technological effect they could find. Each song is varied, some of them focus on sound effects and others are social commentaries and political discussion. Tracks like “Money” are more groovy and instrumental, while “Tango” and “Leviathan” are pure hip-hop. I really enjoyed discovering what else Upshot had to offer s the album played away, each song a little more impressive than the next. There is only one track I had a problem with, called “One Take”. It is so preachy and unfortunately memorable for its annoying chorus, but just skip over it and pretend it wasn't there. The album is a huge variety of sound, it proves that hip hop can be so much more artistic, and even if you aren't a hip-hop fan you can still enjoy the jazzy sounds that this band have created. |
