:: Van Morrison - The Best Of: Volume 3Van MorrisonLook, don‘t get me wrong. I think Van Morrison has had a stellar career. But 'The Best Of: Volume 3’, Come on! That‘s a little ambitious don't you think? Maybe he needs a bigger pool. Anyway, this 31-song, two disc CD covers a variety of hits (and misses) and traverses through his career fairly well. Best known for his killer track 'Gloria’ that has inexplicably been watered down here, this compilation is more about working in conjunction with other famous artists than merely highlighting his solo efforts. With big name acts ranging from Tom Jones, John Lee Hooker, Junior Wells and Ray Charles, Morrison has been both fortunate and honoured, to work with such highly esteemed artists. A mix of the more recognisable songs and the not so, make this very much hit and miss. Tracks like ‘Days Like This’, ‘Moondance’ and ‘Cry For Home’ will be familiar to many but not their style. Sounding more like a cabaret or lounge show, this album won‘t appeal to all. If you own volume one, then that should be all you need but if you are a huge fan, then 'Van Morrison - The Best Of: Volume 3’ offers up something a little different to most best of's. Maybe that's the sell right there. | ![]() |
